Sport News / Premier League Teams Doling Out The Cash– Good Or Bad Business

Premiere League

As is customary, July ushers heavy spending in terms of transfer. Premier League teams are pulling the stops on every front, with each team reinforcing loopholes and creating squad depth while lessening their wage burdens. In this article, we will be classifying the transfers we think is a good or bad business for the parties involved.

Then again, we must warn you not to take our opinions to heart. Some might seem a little harsh to your favourite teams!

1. Paul Pogba reunited with Juventus

Paul Labile Pogba finally changed his free-agent status during the month, closing a four-year deal with Juventus following a difficult season at Manchester United. His tough times at the club culminated with their terminating his contract earlier in June.

Pogba helped contribute one goal and nine assists in 20 Premier League games last season for United, capping a poor outing. He is obviously enthusiastic about putting this past season behind him with his second stint in Turin, where Juventus look to be the beneficiaries of yet another United transfer woe.

Pogba maintained his decision to move to Juventus, even as Pep Guardiola placed several personal calls to woo the midfielder to Etihad.

2. Manchester City welcomes new love Alvarez

Consistent with their presence on the transfer market, Manchester City reportedly closed the deal for youngster Argentinian forward Julian Alvarez from River Plate for about €14 million in January. However, the club left him to spend the rest of the season on loan at River Plate before joining the City squad in July.

The young Argentinian has been a prominent figure for River Plate for the past four seasons, netting 34 goals in 74 appearances for the club. Pep Guardiola undoubtedly hopes to keep his new striker signing, Erling Haaland, on his toes with such a prolific talent. Good business for City? The following weeks will be decisive.

3. Manchester United launch summer plans with Malacia

Following a frustrating start to their summer market proceedings, Manchester United managed to land some success as they acquired Tyrell Malacia to provide depth in the left wing back position. With a new manager at the helm of affairs, we hope to see a better, improved United gameplay in the new season. Apparently, Malacia seems to fit into new boss Ten Hag's plans for the club.

The 22-year-old changed clubs for a transfer fee of about €17m on a three-year deal, as Manchester United reportedly beat Lyon to the youngster's signature. While this is hardly a coup for United, it certainly is some good news amidst difficulties in bringing in top talents.

4. Fulham return to spending ways

Premier League returnees Fulham are another Premier League side that has a knack for upgrading their squad following promotion from the Sky Bet Championship division. Sadly, the amounts spent are not often commensurate with their end-of-the-season results. They would be looking to break the trend this time out.

Their first addition this season was JoĂ£o Palhinha, who joined the club for a €22 million transfer fee from Sporting Club de Portugal. The midfielder signed a five-year contract through 2027. They've also managed to lure Manchester United's Andreas Pereira, who joined the club for an undisclosed fee.

5. Sterling! What a surprise!

Every PL fan was quite stunned when we received news of Chelsea's contact with Manchester City's Raheem Sterling, hoping to coerce the winger to London. Given City's depth in attacking positions, it wasn't too surprising that they accepted the bid. The shocker was Sterling accepted the move, despite his key role in Manchester City and his contributions to the club's success in recent seasons.

Apart from the £45 million bid, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was actively involved in convincing the 27-year-old. Several reports claim Sterling accepted the five-year deal after Thomas Tuchel explained his part in Chelsea's project, which clarifies his readiness to sign long-term for the London giants.

On City's part, you can bet they would be in the market for other attacking options in the coming weeks.

6. Arteta continues raid on Man City camp

Following the statement signing of Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, continued to contact a number of City's regulars, convincing them to switch to North London. His previous experience as midfield coach and a promise of first team football has brought him success on the market, as he again landed Oleksandr Zinchenko in another subtle deal.

The agreed fee was about £32 million, as Zinchenko signed a four-year deal for the Gunners. Whichever position he will take up, this is apparently a win for Arsenal.

7. Forest launch Premier League return in style

While they might not have access to the finances 'Brokelona' claim, Nottingham Forest has had an exceptionally busy July, making them the fifth-highest spending newly promoted club in the 21st century. They landed a whooping 12 arrivals in an assortment of deals, and spent about £82 million, in hopes to stay in the Premier division this time out.

Notable among them is their recent Jesse Lingard swoop, which could make their attack next season a real beauty, as he is joined by Taiwo Awoniyi, who broke out at Union Berlin last season. No expenses were spared as Forest have cast their nets, pulling in talents from all over Europe. It's a decent start–how effective, time will tell.

8. New United? Well, let's see.

Following Tyrell Malacia's signing, Manchester United's new boss, Erik Ten Haag, has been arranging his comeback squad, and honestly, things are looking up for the Red Devils. They've gone on to land Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, after extensive discussions with the manager convinced the veteran midfielder. Lisandro MartĂnez from Ajax has also agreed a four-year contract at Old Trafford, as they hope to plug all defensive loopholes this season. Considering how they are going on business, United isn't doing terribly.

9. Koulibaly for Christensen? No problems

At the start of the transfer window, Chelsea saw two of their starting centre halves swap clubs for La Liga on free transfers, according to the Bosman ruling. Antonio Rudiger moved to UCL winners, Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen made for La Liga rivals Barcelona.

In response to the dip in defensive strength, Chelsea made contact with Napoli, snapping up Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been linked season after season with several top Premier League sides. With his prowess in defence, Chelsea fans can hope for unchanged defensive glamour next season.

10. Burnley players resurfacing?

A photo of Dwight and James Tarkowski

Since Burnley's relegation last season, their top players have actively sought deals from clubs in the top-tier division. Many clubs are planning thrifty deals, so such players are quite in demand. First among them was defender James Tarkowski and keeper Nick Pope, who went on free transfers to Everton and Newcastle earlier in June.

Other departures eager to prove themselves elsewhere include winger Dwight McNeil, who joined former captain Tarkowski at Everton, defender Ben Mee, who recently signed for Brentford, and keeper Wayne Hennessey, who joined new arrivals Forest. Whether or not their experience will be useful in their new clubs, only time will tell.

The transfer window is coming to a close. However, we could still see some action in the transfer market, with Manchester United still bent on landing Frenkie De Jong, and Chelsea still looking out for a centre back, following Barca's dramatic Jules Kounde signing.
