Your Opinion Corner / The Solomon Buchi Saga

Photo of Solomon Buchi and his fiancee, Arike
On 24th July, 2022, Solomon Buchi, a social media content creator and writer, posted photos of himself and his woman, where he attempted to serenade her and publicly profess his love to her. Unfortunately, people misinterpreted his words and dragged him publicly for making a public attestation of his fiancée's flaws.

In Solomon Buchi's publicized love note, he wrote, "You're not the most beautiful woman; neither are you the most intelligent woman, but I have chosen to never find perfection in anyone else." Below is my honest, unpopular but profound opinion about the excerpt above.

Reading through the reactions and the comments just shows how humans prefer to be lied to, rather than being told the truth. We take pleasure in fairy tales and find it difficult to accept the truth.

Buchi might be narcissistic for highlighting the imperfections of his woman and not highlighting his, but can we be real for once? Beauty is relative, and so is intelligence.

The question of perspective also comes to play in this controversial issue. Would people have called him out if he had mentioned that his partner was the most intelligent and most beautiful woman in the world? Sadly, yes. This time, they would call him a liar.

Can we ignore the imperfections of a young man trying to profess his love, and admit to ourselves that we are all in actual fact, flawed? Yes. We are not in possession of every iota of perfection.

Shall we also embrace the other part of his love note that states how he much he misses her, adores her, and how he would choose her over and over again?

I feel that the love note just goes to show what real, true, and sincere love is, while the reactions show how unwilling we are to embrace real love for what it truly is.
