When I woke up on Thursday, May 11th, 2023, I had no idea that anybody was trying to break any Guinness World record in Nigeria. However, as I write this article, I know the name Hilda Baci. She is a Nigerian cook from Akwa-Ibom State who has broken the previous world record for longest cooking time by an individual, and set a new one. She cooked for a whole 100 hours!
That is one admirable feat that I hope to never achieve in my life. I am not even sure I have cooked for a total of 100 hours from the time of my birth.
Of course for her to achieve this feat, it took a whole lot of dedication and training. She has been planning towards it for five years, and that is a whole lot of determination.
On one hand, we are mere mortals - vet students who can’t afford to plan to break such world records. However, so we don't feel left out, I went to look for some world records we can break while preparing for exams on the side. These are things that can be done at home, mostly simple and 'easy' tasks. They wouldn't take so long too, so that, within a few minutes, you would have broken your own record and “blown” on social media.
Let’s look at some of them, shall we?
1. Most T-Shirts Put On In One Minute:
The current world record is 260 T-shirts worn by Ted Hastings all at once, in 2019.
You can wear any type of T-shirts; long sleeved, short sleeved, or even cropped ones. Your friends can also help you to pull the shirts down as you put them on.
The only rule is that you must wear only one T-shirt at once.
2. Most CDs Balanced On One Finger:
No, you cannot put your finger through the holes of the CD. Yes, they can stand like that. It has been done before. The current record for this is either at 50 or 247, depending on which source you check. For you to beat this record therefore, you just need to create a never-before seen stack of 250 CDs on your finger.
3. Most Math Questions Answered In One Minute:
We could change this to just “most questions answered in one minute,” to favor those among us who are preparing for oral exams. A 10 year old boy currently holds this record, answering 196 multiplication and division questions correctly in one minute. This is quite easy, and you can start practicing with your friends and with your course material, so that you can wow the external examiners during your viva assessments. You’re welcome.
4. Most Football Touches in 30 Seconds:
Between the DVM I and DVM IV students, we have quite a number of good footballers. It might be time to put your skills to good use! All you have to do is make 253 football touches in 30 seconds, and the record is yours. However, the rule here is that the ball must stay up in the air. It cannot touch the ground at any point within the thirty seconds. Goodluck!
5. Fastest Time To Type The Alphabet Backwards On A Device:
Now this is one I can attempt. You see, I like to think I type really fast. And with all the writing I have done, I am quite familiar with the positions of the alphabets on the keypad. The current record is at 4 seconds, though, and that is just superhuman speed. I don’t think I have enough determination to pull that off yet.
