BRAND OF THE WEEK: MIYAHCAKES AND TREATS. 

The newly elected P.R.O, Hervie, Karen Akuma, has decided to promote brands in the faculty as part of her plans. This program aims to provide awareness for their businesses and shine the spotlight on noble members of the faculty who somehow manage to combine getting their degree with running a business.

This week, we interviewed Oladepo Mariam, a member of the DVM V class.

She owns Miyahcakes and Treats, a catering service where she sells cakes. Apart from cakes, she also produces chinchin, small chops, doughnuts, and various other eatables.

She started this business sometime in 2021 to earn more income, and her target market is primarily students like herself. 

As a full-time student of the faculty of Veterinary medicine, Ibadan, it can be hard to combine running a business with studying and meeting all the requirements.

Mariam knows this, so her most crucial principle is apportioning a specific time for each task. Her nights are long and filled with hours of baking and decorating to meet up with client’s orders. During the day, she attends classes and concentrates solely on doing that.

“It is not easy,” says Mariam, “but the passion for what you do will keep you going.”

Her greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that the desserts she makes are essential to people’s celebrations and help make their days memorable.

She says it might be challenging for aspiring business owners, but dedication and commitment are sure to drive them to success.

Soon, she hopes to be well-established and hire more hands after graduation to expand her business operations.
