Seals Cup 2023: AVMS continue winless streak as rain worsens 1 - 0 loss

The Veterinary Medicine team was unlucky not to secure all three points in their first Seals Cup game against Forestry, and some of that ill luck followed them into the second fixture, as they played under adverse weather conditions, eventually losing 1 - 0 to Political Science.

The AVMS team fielded an unchanged line-up from the match against Forestry, and, while the Political Science game could have been more promising for Vet, the rain affected their flow in the game. Political Science scrambled a goal in the early stages to gain the advantage all game, as their no-nonsense defending and poor coordination from the Vet attackers prevented the scoreline from changing in Vet’s favor.

Striker Hessy was actively pressing in the final third, driving through the Political Science defense and looking for a break, but none came for Vet in the first half. By the second half, morale was low in the camp, as CK, Mona, and Teslim tried to produce a goal for the Vet side. The defense ensured they didn’t sink any deeper as Dara, Paul, Timi, and Ayomikun were alert to striker movements from Political Science, cutting them out effectively in the second half.

Orodin was on the spot once again after conceding in the first half, but the keeper gave a decent account in the second half, as he was switched on to cut out through balls and close down the 1v1 chances. Overall, it was another case of seeing more of the ball without being able to use it effectively for Veterinary Medicine, and they are now under pressure to win their final game against Electrical Electronics Engineering.

Political Science and Forestry are topping the group with six and four points respectively, while Veterinary Medicine sits in third place, with a single point. There is still a slim chance that the AVMS team gets into the last-16 stage, but that will depend on the goal margins from their matchday three results.

Veterinary Medicine could be on their way out of the competition, but hope is all we’ve got. Let us turn once more for the team on Wednesday, 11 October 2023, by 2:00 p.m., as they hope for success against Electrical & Electronics Engineering at the SUB pitch.
