AVMS BRAND OF THE WEEK: FAVESCREATIVES

 

This week, Akinyemi Favour, the bag maker and brains behind the brand, talks to Olubode Josephine about her brand. 

Please give a brief introduction of yourself and your brand.

My name is Akinyemi Favour, a DVM III Student, and a bag maker. My brand name is Favescreatives, and I produce handmade bags.  Making and marketing bags is what I do.

What inspired you to start the business?

The 2020 lockdown. Staying at home was really dull and tiring. I just wanted something to do, and that was where bag-making came in.

What was the learning process like for you? Was it an easy one? 

Bag making generally is a challenging process, from the imagination to the designing, and sometimes the wounds too. It wasn't an easy process, but learning was fun.

How do you decide which designs to make? 

The designs are based on each Customer's orders.  They send in pictures of the bag they want. Sometimes there are multiple designs that they want to modify into one bag for themselves. 

 

Can you show us pictures of some designs you've worked on?

Sure! Here are some bags I've worked on. 

These look good. What is the usual price range for your products? 

 Handbags go for anything between 6,000 to 11,000 naira.  

The price of laptop bags varies,  depending on the specific measurements, but 10,000 naira is the starting price.

Small and simple bags cost between 4,000 to 7,000 naira.   

How do you balance running your business with Vet School? 

My business requires me to get materials from the market regularly because some customers can be very particular about the color and texture of the leather they prefer. Making frequent trips to the market, and creating bags while having classes every day can be very stressful.

So, most of the time, I attend classes during the day and work at night. I try to make my market trips at periods when it would not interfere with school work too much.
