Vet to go head-to-head with Arts as Jaw War 2024 Draws Drop

It goes without saying that the Jaw War event in the University of Ibadan is one of the biggest social gatherings in the university. In fact, it is the biggest public speaking contest in West Africa, and it was with such anticipatory air that The Literary and Debating Society, University of Ibadan declared the event open at a press conference on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

The Jaw War 2024 draws were conducted by the UCJ President, following the press conference, and as expected, we had several draws that sparked interest, while others seemed to be written in the stars. Faculty winners Arts will be opening the event against Veterinary Medicine, who got knocked out in the first stages last session, while Ransome Kuti Hall drew Sultan Bello, starting the Hall event with a rematch of last session's finals.

The drama doesn't stop there, though, as Queen Elizabeth II Hall drew Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall for the umpteenth time; maybe we would be seeing different results this time.

It's true that topics are never a barrier to good speeches, and the so-called 'disadvantaged' sides often come up with the most resounding upsets. TLDS UI came up with delightful topics this time, as we will be seeing the faculties and halls go head to head on trending issues in modern times.

Jaw War 2024 will start in the following fashion for the faculties:

Arts vs Veterinary Medicine,

Environmental Design and Management vs Basic Medical Sciences,

Public Health vs Dentistry,

Social Sciences vs Pharmacy,

Economics vs Science,

Law vs Renewable Natural Resources,

Education vs Technology,

Clinical Sciences vs Agriculture.

For the Halls, we have the following ties:

Ransome Kuti vs Sultan Bello,

Kenneth Mellanby vs Queen Idia,

Queen Elizabeth II vs Nnamdi Azikiwe,

Lord Tedder vs Alexander Brown,

Obafemi Awolowo vs Independence.

Some of the UI'SU executives graced the draws with their presence, namely the President Samuel Samson Oluwatobiloba (HOST), the Vice President Nafisat Ogunsesan, and the Sports Secretary Moses Etana Omokukpo. The President added some spice to the event by dropping his predictions for the faculty event, steering clear of the Hall events because of his obvious stakes in both Alexander Brown and Nnamdi Azikiwe Halls.

According to HOST, the faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Dentistry, Social Sciences, Sciences, Law, and Clinical Sciences will be coming through to the quarter-finals. The President left the Education versus Technology tie out, stating that he felt it would disrupt his predictions.

So, the shots have been called; the 'overlords' and 'underdogs' have perfectly pitched one against  the other for yet another jaw-dropping Jaw War edition. The debates are not until February, but the various LDS's will be working overtime to create the perfect speeches already.

Jaw War 2024 is already live, and here is how the faculties and Halls start this session's edition.
