AVMS Dean's League 2024

AVMS Dean's League 2024: Rivalry Unresolved as Clinical Students Tie, Again

The 500 and 600 level students have been at loggerheads since they encountered one another in the Dean's Cup in 2018. Each team holds a win apiece since their first game, with Friday's draw marking the fourth meeting between the two sides.

The game provided entertainment in all forms and was only lacking in goals. 600 level star forward Hessy missed a glorious chance to put his side ahead in the first half, chipping a lofted pass well over the crossbar. On the other side, Alaka failed to put his laces through his shot, as he spurned an equally brilliant opportunity for a goal.

Fatigue dulled the game in the second period, as the 600 level team grew less incisive, allowing their opponents to grow into the game. Regardless, the 500 level defence was under substantial pressure throughout the game, and 500 level goalie Toheeb stepped up beautifully to keep his team in the game and ensure the scores were intact.

It was a keenly fought encounter, albeit ending goalless, and the clinical students will be looking forward to securing better results against their junior colleagues in the fixtures that follow.

The present AVMS administration has changed the format of the annual football competition, as the tournament format has been revised to the current league format. This affords all class/levels a chance to play against one another, while the top two teams face off in a final fixture during the AVMS week to determine the winner of the Dean's Cup.

In light of the recent changes, we have a lot of football action to look forward to in the next few weeks. Seniors will clash against juniors, as the league gets more intense; the Dean's Cup is properly up for grabs this time around.

Next up, we have the 400 level class taking on 200 level and 300 level facing off their 100 level counterparts, all on Sunday afternoon.

Don't be told; be there!
