Leadership Unveiled: AVMS Executives Share Their Visions for a Bright Future

In the noble Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan, a new wave of leadership is set to take the helm. Recently elected executives of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMS) shared their aspirations, motivations, and plans in an exclusive interview that shed light on the passion and dedication each individual brings to their respective roles.

The Journey to Leadership:

As the voices of the elected resonated through the interview, it became evident that these leaders weren't just chosen; they were born out of a deep-seated commitment to service. Ahmed Saheed Olaide, the President-elect, revealed a long-standing ambition nurtured since his early years in the faculty. Ahsad, as he is fondly known, has been at the forefront of advocating for unity within the student body, setting the stage for his presidency.

Others, like Aderinsola Onibon, the Vice President-elect, expressed a dedication to fostering academic excellence and community within the faculty. Each leader brought a unique story, a personal journey, and a burning desire to contribute to the betterment of AVMS.

A Glimpse into the Vision:

The executives outlined their visions for the faculty, demonstrating a keen understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Akinleye Aishat Oluwatobiloba, the General Secretary-elect, emphasized the importance of resilience, determination, and hard work to contribute to the association's development. Olaniyi Mariam, the Financial Secretary-elect, shared her desire to serve and gain valuable experience beyond her previous role in handling funds. Odunaike Faruk Olukokade, the Health and Welfare Director-elect plans to establish a committee representing each class to act as eyes and ears, reporting concerns and needs to him. By fostering approachability, he aims to create an environment where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts. Akindele Peter Oluwaseun, the Public Relations Officer-elect said - Just as I am going to be the person conveying information about the association to the students, indirectly, I am also going to be conveying the concerns of the students to the association. I will occasionally create a suggestion box via Google form, this is going to be a collaboration between me and The Editorial Board to ensure that all issues in the faculty are attended to.

Election Reflections:

When asked about their reflections on the recently concluded elections, the executives painted a picture of a transforming democratic process within the faculty. Ahsad, the President-elect, highlighted the increased interest and participation, a positive change in contrast to past elections. The sentiment echoed by other executives revealed a shared appreciation for the fair, transparent, and competitive nature of the election.

Faruk, the Health and Welfare director-elect said - The only issue I have is the fact that two persons from the same class might have to compete against one another which I don't really consider healthy competition I experienced the class literally feel divided but I guess everything is back to normal now since the election.

Akinpelu Timileyin Joseph said - The events leading to the election including ( screening, press night and manifesto) were good but we can still do better. The election itself was free, fair, transparent and very democratic in its conduct. I applaud the IVMSEC for that.

Engagement and Communication:

The executives detailed their plans to engage with the student body and address their concerns effectively. From open communication channels to suggestion boxes and representation committees, these leaders are determined to bridge the gap between the executive and the members. Akindele Peter Oluwaseun, the PRO-elect, emphasized the importance of conveying student concerns to the association through channels like Google forms and town hall meetings. Akinpelu Timileyin, the Assistant General Secretary-elect aims to bridge the gap between executives and the student body. Through class representatives and internet tools, he plans to gather feedback and address recurring issues, fostering a transparent and accountable administration.

Looking Ahead:

As the interview unfolded, it became clear that each executive is not just a title holder but a beacon of change. Ojelabi Oluwafimisogo, the Social Secretary-elect, expressed a desire to infuse more fun into the faculty, recognizing the importance of balance in a student's life. Olubiro Tesleem Olamilekan, the Sport Secretary-elect, shared his passion for sports and his vision to make it a unifying force within the faculty.

In conclusion, the elected executives have set forth with determination, passion, and clear strategies to propel AVMS to new heights. Their visions, reflections, and plans provide a glimpse into the promising future of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan.

Congratulations once again to all elected excos! Best wishes for a successful tenure ahead. Your willingness to share insights during the interview is appreciated, and we look forward to witnessing the positive impact of your leadership.
