In a ceremony marked by tradition and recognition, the faculty witnessed the handing over of administration and the swearing-in of newly elected executives which took place at the 500 Level class on 20th May, 2024. The event, attended by the Subdean, Dr. Olayinka Anifowoshe, senators, and members of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMS), was initiated by an opening speech from the outgoing president.
In his address, the outgoing president, Comr. Olayiwola Zaccheaus acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests and attendees, expressing his gratitude for their support throughout his tenure. He recounted the achievements of his administration, highlighting significant events such as the freshers' welcome ceremony for 100-level students, which served as an orientation for new students, and the lab coat ceremony for preclinical students. He also mentioned the collaboration with the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) and Dr. Moses Arokoyo on the 2023 World Rabies Day, which involved sensitization efforts and visits to vaccine stores and rural areas.
The outgoing president expressed his gratitude for the collective efforts that led to the administration's success. He emphasized the importance of unity among the incoming executives, urging them to work cohesively. In his concluding remarks, he congratulated the new executives and thanked everyone for their support, singling out the Subdean for special appreciation.
Following his speech, the Subdean presented service awards to 13 members of the AVMS, recognizing their contributions - Akinola Eniola, Gbore Damilola, AJibade Favour, Olayiwola Zaccheaus, Olaiya Ismiat, Samuel Sunday, Taiwo Oluwatobiloba, Olateju Amoo Khadija, Ibukunoluwa Oludiran, Tolulope Oyemade, Osungbade Ridwan, Olutomiwa Daniel.
The ceremony then moved to the formal dissolution of the outgoing administration by the senate president, Senator Samuel Sunday.
The newly elected executives were called forward, and the senate president led the swearing-in ceremony, presenting them with the constitution.
The new president, Ahmed Saheed Olaide, in his inaugural speech, expressed gratitude to the Subdean, the senate council, and the outgoing executives. He vowed to uphold the legacy of his predecessor and acknowledged the support of his colleagues and association members.
The event concluded with a speech from the Subdean, Dr. Olayinka Anifowoshe who commended the outgoing executives for their dedication and advised the new leaders to plan strategically and maintain transparency with the faculty regarding their initiatives.
Following, the handing over ceremony, the new executives together with the new senate president, Senator Mikail Abiola Fasanya paid a visit to The Dean of The Faculty, Professor Olufunke Ola-davies at her office on the 21st May, 2024. She advised the new executives to be accountable as it will help them, not just in their positions but in bigger ones. She also reminded them to always remember that they are students first and shouldn't do things outside of the law, and the faculty will always be there to support if they don't misbehave.
