The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ibadan is set to celebrate a monumental milestone this year: 60 years of veterinary education. Under the theme "60 Years of Veterinary Education in Ibadan" and the sub-theme "The Goals, the Gains, and the Gaps," the faculty will commemorate its legacy in conjunction with the 53rd Induction Ceremony. This week-long event, scheduled from July 29th to August 2nd, 2024, promises an exciting line-up of activities aimed at honoring the past, engaging the present, and inspiring the future of veterinary medicine.

Vet Fair: Showcasing Innovation and Service

Throughout the week, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine will host a ‘Vet Fair’, where various brands and organizations will set up stands to showcase their products and services. This fair, running parallel to the main events, offers a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the latest innovations and advancements in veterinary science.

Day 1: Monday, July 29th, 2024

The celebrations kick off with a ‘Rally’ featuring music and horses, creating a lively and festive atmosphere across the campus. This morning event sets the tone for the week, inviting participants to join in the excitement. In the afternoon, the faculty will conduct a ‘Free Anti-rabies Campaign’ and host a ‘Dog Show’, emphasizing their commitment to public health and animal welfare. The Dog show will feature dog parades and showcase several dog breeds and their special talents to the public.

Day 2: Tuesday, July 30th, 2024

Education and inspiration take center stage on the second day with a ‘Career Talk’ at the auditorium. Students from ten secondary schools will be invited to listen to inspiring speeches, aimed at motivating and guiding them towards a career in veterinary medicine. In the afternoon, participants will extend their compassion and service by visiting a ‘Motherless Babies Orphanage’, reflecting the faculty's dedication to community service.

Day 3: Wednesday, July 31st, 2024

Alumni and current students will reunite for a ‘Pre-Induction Dinner and Homecoming’ event, aptly tagged "Homecoming." This evening promises to be a nostalgic and joyous occasion, featuring a special appearance by the renowned musician Chief Ebenezer Obey. It will be a night of celebration, reminiscence, and music, honoring the enduring bond between the alumni and their Alma mater.

Day 4: Thursday, August 1st, 2024

The fourth day features a highly anticipated ‘Symposium’ where Professor Tomori will deliver a keynote address on "The 3Gs: The Goals, the Gains, and the Gaps." This insightful session will provide a comprehensive overview of the advancements and challenges in veterinary education over the past six decades. In the afternoon, the camaraderie continues with a ‘Novelty Football Match’ between vet students and alumni, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and unity.

The grand finale of the week-long celebration is the ‘53rd Induction Ceremony’. This significant event marks the transition of new graduates from students to professional veterinarians, ready to embark on their careers and contribute to the field.
