Veterinary Education in Nigeria is 60 Years, and The White House is White Again!

The White House, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan. 

In preparation for her 60th anniversary, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UI, has made sure that every living and non-living thing has felt the breeze of change. 

This includes things like a thorough clean-up and repainting of the faculty buildings, and renovations of some major structures. A walkway also got built right beside the faculty auditorium. 

The female restroom at the Medicine department used to be a lagoon where all sorts of germs play hide and seek. There, female students had to dip their shoes in the pooling drainage in order to reach the toilets. As if that was not enough mosquitos even turned the lagoon into a maternity ward, but with the breeze of change, the lagoon has vanished, and the rest room is now in order. 

Our beloved small animal clinic wasn't left out of the sweeping change, as it has also experienced change in every ramifications, from the replacement of the wash hand basin to the renovations of the offices in the clinic. 

'Look good, feel good’ says the mantra, and there is definitely a feel-good atmosphere around the clinic these days.

The evolution hit even the most mundane aspects of the faculty, including stuff like the signposts. It's one of those things you almost never notice until they are gone. Or changed, as the case is now with our faculty's signposts. 

To be more contemporary, the steeze is back and the faculty is giving.

The most noticeable change, however, is happening to the faculty building itself. The elephant in the room, as it were, the faculty building for Veterinary Medicine in the University of Ibadan has always been called ‘White House’ for its striking white color, visible even from miles away. The name persisted even when the white paint faded and was constantly replaced with an appalling shade of brown. 

Thankfully, we can now see the faculty building return to its full glory. The ‘White House’ is white again, and the process of transformation is almost as gratifying as the finished result will be surreal.

It's a great time to witness the change all around; don't be found wanting at the Vet @ 60 celebrations as well!
