AVMS L&D in JAW WAR Rise of Legends: It's Been Quite the Run

In the third stage of a journey that seemed to have been dependent on luck and filled with a series of near misses, The AVMS UI L&D speakers faced off with the Faculty of Agriculture tonight at the Jaw War Quarter Finals.

They qualified for the second round by being the best losers, and they were able to move on to the quarterfinals automatically when PANS L&D dropped out due to technicalities.

For tonight, they were to speak in support of the topic, ‘The Feminist movement in the 21st century: Healthy or Toxic,’ and they showed up and showed out.

After many TDBs, sleepless nights, scrapped speeches and rehearsals, Toyinbo Ayodeji (DVM IV) and Mariam Oduola (DVM II) were chosen to represent the faculty. This writer was privy to the extensive practice and work that went into the practice sessions, meetings and deliberations. Given the dicey nature of the topic, there were a lot of arguments and heated exchanges, but the shared goal however kept them going.

When the time came, the speakers went on stage and delivered their points excellently. One particular portion of the speech that stood out to the audience was the conclusion by the second speaker, Mariam Oduola, as seen below.

Sadly, the end of the journey has come for the AVMS L&D in this year's competition, as they lost to the Faculty of Agriculture by a margin of 5 points.

(VETERINARY MEDICINE 73.5% VS. AGRIC. 78.6%)

Despite how things turned out though, we can only say: ‘good game.’ They put in their best, and did what needed to be done. The L&D can pat themselves on the shoulder for a respectable outing at the Jaw War: Rise of Legends, hoping to build on their performance next time out.

For now, we look forward to seeing the progress of the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts, and Social Sciences in the next few rounds.

FINAL RESULTS

SOCIAL SCIENCES. 83.75 VS. LAW. 81.1

NURSING. 74. VS. ARTS. 80.12

BEST LOSER: LAW

OVERALL BEST SPEAKER (Decided by a tiebreaker): CHINEKE UGOCHUKWU (Favour Ola-Stephen)
